Traditional or Short and Sweet Weddings

For a happy, relaxed and yet meaningful wedding day, I offer you my services as a friendly and creative celebrant with whom you will feel comfortable and confident.

Whether you would like a wedding ceremony that is traditional or modern, casual or formal, simple or elegant, inclusive of your children, a surprise to your guests or a combination of these, I can make suggestions to create the atmosphere you decide on.  If you come from a different culture or a family that has developed certain unique traditions, these can be recognised and included in your ceremony.

The content, style, format, location and delivery of a ceremony has changed immensely in the six years I have been working full time as a civil celebrant.  The previous traditional style marriage ceremony was usually fairly solemn and serious and conducted to a set formula centred around religion and held within the confines of a church and was likely to drone on for hours, and this still seems to apply today.

The style of ceremony that I write and deliver reflects a more modern, relaxed approach that focuses on the couples values and attitudes and whilst it centres first and foremost on the reason for the ceremony, I extend it to include, honour and acknowledge your family and friends who you have invited to share these significant moments with.

The location of your marriage ceremony can be anywhere you choose whether it be your home, a local garden or park, a restaurant or reception venue or even, for a small, private elopement ceremony, my home or garden.

Summerfield Winery, Moonambel
Mark and Masako were happily married by Julie Dober Ballarat Marriage Celebrant at Summerfield Winery, Moonambel near Ballarat, May 2008.Julie Dober was recommended to us as a marriage celebrant for our wedding on 10th May 2008. Our wedding was a little different as my wife Masako is Japanese and had some special requirements because of culture. We could not have wished for a better person to have joined our lives together, Julie catered for all of Masako’s and my needs, and we could not have been happier. Julie’s professionalism toward our marriage was everything that we could have asked for, a first time for both of us, we were both a little nervous and Julie was able to make everything flow as it should. The best day of our lives, the next is to come is December when our first child is born. - Mark and Masako.

If you wish, the richness of your ceremony can be enhanced by your choice of various symbolic rituals such as The Ring Warming or The Ribbon Ceremony.  These can help to create a lovely visual aspect to your ceremony and are often used to include some other significant people in your lives.

If you choose to have a short and sweet ceremony, then I’m more than happy to meet your request.  A very short ceremony (without much sweetness!) can take around three minutes to meet all the legal requirements.  However a short and sweet ceremony usually lasts for around fifteen minutes, with a traditional ceremony taking approximately twenty to thirty minutes depending on the content.  These times are flexible and depend on factors such as how long the bride and her party take to walk in, how long the guests are taking photos for during the signing and of course, what you choose to include in your ceremony.

Whatever style of wedding you choose, please be assured that I will conduct your ceremony as required by law ensuring that your marriage will meet all legal requirements and that I will supply and accurately complete and lodge all legal documentation for your marriage

I would be delighted for you to contact me to discuss my service so that I can offer you a unique, elegant and relaxing marriage ceremony that will reflect your styles and your characters and will assist you to achieve your dream day and magical moments.

Please go  to the menu to the right to read about some different styles of wedding ceremonies, including child-inclusive weddings, elopementssurprise weddings, destination weddings for couples from interstate or overseas, and small and private weddings.

If your fiance is overseas and you wish to apply for a prospective spouse visa (fiancé visa) I am happy to assist you with the required letter documenting your booking for your wedding.
