Same Sex Commitment Ceremonies

I strongly believe that all couples have the right to participate in a joyous and celebratory ceremony that reflects honesty and dignity in a commitment to a lifelong partnership and union.

While a same-sex commitment ceremony does not create a legally recognised union it is an occasion for you to express your love in the presence of family and friends, giving them an opportunity to acknowledge and support your lifelong commitment.  With your participation and in consideration of your ideas and wishes, I will write a Ceremony that outwardly reflects and expresses your heartfelt love and commitment to each other. It will be personalised to reflect your styles, your characters and your story.

Whether you would like a ceremony that is modern, casual, formal, simple or elegant or a combination of these, I can make suggestions to create the atmosphere you decide on. The richness of your ceremony can be enhanced by various symbolic additions.

REGISTERING YOUR RELATIONSHIP: The State of Victoria has a Relationships Register which allows those in a same-sex or domestic partnership to register their relationship. Registering your relationship is a paper-based transaction that includes no ceremony.  A fee is payable for registration with an additional fee for a certificate and there is a 28 day waiting period between making the application and the actual registration.

Choosing to register your relationship adds government recognition to your commitment ceremony but is not a requirement for a commitment ceremony. When you book your ceremony with me I will explain what you need to do to apply to have your relationship included in the Relationships Register.

Diana and Wayne came all the way from England to be married in Ballarat by Julie Dober, Ballarat civil marriage celebrant

I can’t thank you enough for your compassion, emotional support and creativity. It was the way you made our ceremony truly unique and the way it ran so seamlessly, that made our guests feel like you were a member of our family. The specially crafted ceremony you wrote and designed for us was truly unique. The circle of leaves, the creation of vows, the way in which you engaged our guests, immersing them into the love we have… made the day very special. I’m so grateful that we chose you to confirm our commitment to each other as I can’t imagine another person who could not only meet what we had in mind, but surpass our expectations.  You were as much an important part of our ceremony as our families were and we’re very grateful. Every guest made a comment about your sincerity and warmth and I would most certainly say to any couples who value their love and who need professionalism and care with a ceremony, to use your unique service. Thanks again, Walt and Shaun
